Porto had 597 homeless people at the end of last year

The city of Porto had 597 homeless people at the end of last year, 50 fewer than in 2022, but 59 more homeless people, it was revealed today.

According to the councillor responsible for Social Cohesion, Fernando Paulo, the number of homeless people fell by 11% compared to 2022.

At the end of 2023, the city had 597 homeless people, 230 of whom were homeless and 367 without a home.

“There was an increase of 59 people in a homeless situation compared to 2022 and a decrease of 109 people in a homeless situation,” said the councillor during the public meeting of Porto City Council.

The majority of homeless people are male, aged between 45 and 64 and more than half are single.

Fernando Paulo added that 48 people left homelessness last year, 17 more than in 2022.
