The city of Porto will also commemorate the centenary of Amílcar Cabral’s birth with various activities on the 28th, while simultaneously celebrating ‘Victorious September’, according to the announced program.
The event, which will bring together various associations and personalities to honor the life and work of Amílcar Cabral, includes cultural sessions featuring music, poetry, and gastronomy among its activities.
Also noteworthy is a lecture by Joacine Katar Moreira and a session with testimonies from Alice and João Maria Goudiaby and Paulo Monteiro, who were in Conakry, Guinea, and had the opportunity to meet Cabral.
The event, organized by the associations ANASTÁCIA – Center for Decolonial Studies and Intervention, Association of Guinean Students in Porto, and Aguinens, will take place at Espaço Asa Branca in Shopping Brasília.
It is worth noting that activities commemorating the centenary of Amílcar Cabral’s birth will take place throughout September in at least 10 countries, mostly in Cape Verde and Portugal, according to the Amílcar Cabral Foundation.
Amílcar Cabral was born on September 12, 1924, in Bafatá, in what was then Portuguese Guinea (now Guinea-Bissau), and was assassinated on January 20, 1973, in Conakry.
