The Minister of National Defense, Helena Carreiras, announced today that Portugal will contribute one million euros to the joint purchase of large-caliber ammunition for Ukraine.
“Within the framework of the agreement we signed with the European Defense Agency last year, we will be able to participate with one million euros for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine in this joint effort,” announced Helena Carreiras, at the end of a ministerial meeting at the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Brussels.
She added that large-caliber ammunition, specifically 155-millimeter ammunition, is the “most urgent need Ukraine has”.
The Portuguese investment in the joint purchase of ammunition is part of the European Union’s goal of obtaining one million artillery rounds by the end of the year.
