The Portuguese Air Force (FAP) directly supported 791 people during 2023, including medical transport, rescues and search and rescue missions, it was announced today.
In a statement, the FAP said that these figures include not only 696 urgent air medical transports, but also rescues of 56 people and the saving of 39 human lives in search and rescue missions on land and at sea.
Also noteworthy are the 26 transports of organs for transplantation, more than 1,000 flight hours on national airspace sovereignty missions, more than 1,680 hours on national and international maritime surveillance missions and 157 reconnaissance missions, as well as the reconnaissance and assessments integrated into the Special Rural Fire Fighting Device, totaling 470 flight hours.
