Portuguese co-production “A Viagem de Pedro” wins three awards in Brazil

The Portuguese co-production film “A Viagem de Pedro” won three awards today at the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix, in which the Portuguese co-production “Paloma” and “Restos do Vento”, by Tiago Guedes, were also nominated for prizes.

The film by Brazilian director Lais Bodanzky, co-produced by Portugal’s O Som e a Fúria, won Best Art Direction (Adrian Cooper), Best Costume Design (Marjorie Gueller, Joana Porto and Patrícia Dória) and Best Make-up (Tayce Vale and Blue).

The film, which imagines the Atlantic crossing of Pedro I, Emperor of Brazil (Pedro IV of Portugal), in 1831, abdicating the Brazilian throne and heading to Portugal to face his brother, Miguel I, had ten nominations for the Brazilian Academy of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts awards.

“Pedro’s Journey” was shot in Brazil and Portugal and stars Cauã Reymond, as well as Victoria Guerra, Luise Heyer, Francis Magee, Isabél Zuaa, Rita Wainer and Welket Bungué, among others.

“Paloma”, by Marcelo Gomes, co-produced by Portugal’s Ukbar Filmes, about a trans woman determined to live a so-called ‘typically traditional’ life, although it didn’t win any awards, was nominated in eight categories.

At the 22nd edition of the Brazilian Film Grand Prix, held at the Cidade das Artes in Rio de Janeiro, Tiago Guedes’ feature film “Restos do Vento” was also nominated for Best Ibero-American Film, an award that was eventually won by “Argentina, 1985”

“Restos do Vento”, starring Albano Jerónimo and Nuno Lopes and produced by Leopardo Filmes, has already been shown at several international festivals.

The big winner on the night turned out to be “Marte Um”, a production by Filmes de Plásticos, which received the award for best fiction feature film and in seven other categories, including direction, photography, original screenplay, editing and sound.
