A 59-year-old Portuguese citizen, sentenced to eight years in prison in Italy, was caught by authorities in Brenner attempting to flee by train to Austria.
According to the newspaper La Milano, the man was preparing to board when he was subjected to an inspection.
Although he tried to “remain calm,” his nervousness was noticed by the Italian patrol, leading to his identification and arrest.
The publication also reports that the man had been wanted since February when he was convicted in Pavia for “various crimes,” including offenses against life and property. During his time on the run, he allegedly used several false names to avoid capture.
The Portuguese man will now be taken to the prison facility where he will serve the sentence he was given.
