Portuguese Nelson Oliveira to line up for 20th Tour

Nelson Oliveira will be in the 111th Tour de France, the Spanish team Movistar confirmed today, with the Portuguese cyclist setting off on Saturday in Florence (Italy) for his 20th Grand Tour.

At the age of 35, the Portuguese cyclist with the most appearances in major Tours over the last three decades reaches the round number with his eighth Tour appearance, the same number that Acácio da Silva reached with his last appearance in the Giro in 1993.

Nelson Oliveira will be at the ‘Grande Boucle’ as the ‘squire’ of Enric Mas, the Spaniard who was fifth in the 2020 edition and sixth the following year.

The bloc of the only Spanish WorldTour team is completed by ‘nationals’ Oier Lazkano, Alex Aranburu and Javier Romo, Italian Davide Formolo, Colombian sprinter Fernando Gaviria and Austrian Gregor Mühlberger.

‘Nelsinho’ is joined in the Tour peloton by João Almeida (UAE Emirates), the other Portuguese already confirmed.

The 111th Tour de France starts on Saturday in Florence (Italy) and finishes on July 21 in Nice.
