Houses will be made available on a supported rental basis, particularly to young families.
The Póvoa de Varzim City Council, in the district of Porto, has launched a public tender, worth 6.1 million euros, for the construction of 48 social housing apartments, to be rented out at controlled costs.
The tender procedure, published in Diário da República, is part of the Local Housing Strategy, under the 1st Right Program, which is financed with European funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
The 48 housing units, of different types, will be built on Rua Alberto Oliveira, in Barreiros, in the eastern part of the city, with a deadline of 540 days [about a year and a half].
At the end of construction, the houses, spread over two blocks and owned by the municipality, will be made available on a supported rental basis, particularly to young families.
In addition to this investment of 6.1 million euros, there is another 2.7 million euros for housing, also under the Local Housing Strategy, for the construction of 32 apartments in Mariadeira, also in the eastern part of the city.
In this case, it’s a building with 26 supported rental units and another six units for social emergency situations, which will be built on a 3,600 square meter plot of land that the city council acquired, for 500,000 euros, from the ‘A Beneficiente’ social solidarity institution,
The project and the launch of the tender are expected to take place this year, so that the work can be completed by 2026.
