The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, today made official the scheduling of the European elections for June 9, stressing that mobile voting will also be possible in this electoral act.
According to a note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic, the Head of State “today signed the Decree setting for June 9 the election of the 21 Members of the European Parliament elected in Portugal, a date that had been set by decision of the Council of Ministers of the European Union”.
The Sunday on which the European elections in Portugal are scheduled falls on the eve of June 10, the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities.
In the same note, it is noted that “the possibility of mobile voting is also foreseen”.
The European Union decided in May last year that this year’s European Parliament elections will take place between June 6 and 9, with Portugal disagreeing and suggesting other dates, but no alternative obtained the necessary unanimity.
