Prison guards begin strike action today

Prison guards today began a nearly two-week strike, a protest called by the National Union of Prison Guard Corps (SNCGP) that could jeopardize the transportation of prisoners to court.

According to the strike notice, which will run from 00:00 on February 13 to 23:59 on February 25, the strike is aimed at “valuing and dignifying professionals”, “restructuring pay supplements” and “approving the performance evaluation system for prison guard professionals, which has already been completed”.

The notice sent to the government, the regional governments, the Directorate General for Reintegration and Prison Services (DGRSP) and the directors of the country’s prisons “declares a strike on the service of diligence” during the period mentioned.

With the same demands, the SNCGP has already scheduled a continuation of this strike, between February 26 and March 9, and carried out a full 24-hour strike on January 31, having in the meantime received a promise from the government that the evaluation and performance system would be approved by March.

Prison guards have also been part of the security forces’ protests over the last month, motivated above all by the allocation of a mission allowance to the PJ that left out not only prison guards, but also the PSP and GNR.
