The president of the PSD said today that he was “pleased with the sense of responsibility” of the communication made on Tuesday by the secretary-general of the PS, but declined to answer whether he is available to negotiate the viability of a possible amending budget.
“I had the opportunity to listen to all the speeches made by all the party leaders and took note of all their content. Regarding that of the PS secretary-general, I was pleased to note the sense of responsibility it contains,” said Luís Montenegro, at the end of an audience with the President of the Republic.
After being received by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on Tuesday, Pedro Nuno Santos expressed his willingness to make possible an AD amending budget limited to “matters of consensus”, referring to the upgrading of the salary scales of some professional groups in the public administration by the beginning of the summer.
Montenegro, however, declined to answer this challenge, referring all clarifications to the future government.
“Everything else, the realization of whatever it is, will be up to the government, which doesn’t exist yet. When it does, it will respond to all the communications that have been made,” he said.
Luís Montenegro also failed to answer the question of whether a government he leads would be willing to support António Costa’s candidacy for the presidency of the European Council.
On Tuesday, the secretary-general of the PS said he was referring to “teachers, security forces, health professionals” and bailiffs and guaranteed that the PS is available to find with the future government “a solution that will allow these professionals to have their situation resolved by the summer”.
“Bearing in mind that it may be necessary to change spending limits, we are willing to make an amending budget possible that is limited to matters of consensus,” he announced.
“I myself will make contact with the leader of the coalition to make myself available, to demonstrate the PS’s willingness, even to indicate two names that can, within 30 days, build an agreement that will allow us to find a solution by the summer to resolve the situation of these public administration professionals even before the start of the summer vacations,” added Pedro Nuno Santos.
