Between Friday and Sunday, the PSP arrested 77 drunk drivers and 40 without a legal license to drive, as part of the “Safe Holidays” operation, which over the last three days has resulted in seven serious injuries in 478 accidents.
According to the results of the operation released today by the National Directorate of the PSP for the period from December 22 to 24, 29 people were arrested for theft and robbery, three for possession of prohibited weapons and eight for suspected drug trafficking.
The police seized more than 430 individual doses of drugs, six firearms and 12 bladed weapons (knives).
Between Friday and Sunday, the PSP recorded 478 accidents on the roads under its jurisdiction, causing 147 injuries, including seven serious ones.
Since the “Safe Holidays” operation began on December 15, the PSP has counted two deaths on the roads, but none between Friday and Sunday.
In the last three days, the PSP inspected 4,738 vehicles and checked 17,120 by radar, identifying 1,728 administrative offenses, including speeding (602), lack of periodic inspection (91), driving under the influence of alcohol (42), lack of insurance (25) and improper use of cell phones (25).
The 77 drunk drivers who were arrested were driving with a blood alcohol level considered a crime.
The PSP’s “Safe Holidays” 2023/2024 operation ends on January 2nd.
