The Public Ministry is searching the Hospital da Senhora da Oliveira, in Guimarães, and in more than a dozen other places, for suspected corruption and other crimes, revealed today the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
According to a note published on the ‘site’ of the PGR, the searches also cover other institutions, such as the League of Friends of the Cardiology Service of the Hospital of Senhora da Oliveira or the Rotary Club of Guimarães, and companies in the medical technology sector. Besides Guimarães, the diligences also happen in Porto, Lisbon, Oeiras and Amadora.
The investigation, which is led by the Central Department of Investigation and Prosecution (DCIAP) and has the support of the National Anti-Corruption Unit (UNCC) of the Judicial Police (PJ), is associated with the General Inspection of Health Activities (IGAS) report to Senhora da Oliveira Hospital, following the creation of the Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Intervention Unit.
At stake, according to the MP, may be the practice of crimes of “harmful administration, active and passive corruption, economic participation in business, abuse of power and active corruption with damage to international trade.
The searches are attended by judges, prosecutors, PJ inspectors, representatives of the Medical Association and the Bar Association, as well as IGAS inspectors.
