S. João da Caparica and Norte beaches in Almada banned from bathing

S. João da Caparica beach and Praia do Norte beach, in the municipality of Almada, are banned from bathing due to poor water quality, and the red flag has been raised, the municipality said today.

In a statement, the Almada City Council (CMA), in the district of Setúbal, explains that “following analyses carried out in the last 48 hours, the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) reported that the bathing water at the beaches of S. João da Caparica/ Praia do Norte had values above the stipulated limit for the e. coli parameter”.

At this point, says the municipality, the respective warnings have already been put in place and the red flags have already been hoisted signaling the banning of the waters.

As a result of this situation, Almada Town Hall says it is already on the ground trying to locate the source of the problem, in collaboration with the Municipal Water and Sanitation Services (SMAS), coastal management (WEMOB), concessionaires and the competent authorities.

The Portuguese Environment Agency will carry out new analyses on Thursday, and the municipality guarantees that it will “continue to monitor the situation and inform the population”.
