The neonatology service at Santa Maria Hospital is closed due to a multidrug-resistant bacterium, confirmed today the Centro Hospitalar Universitário Lisboa Norte (CHULN), which assured that the 13 positive babies are clinically stable.

“The positive babies are clinically stable and the Local Coordinating Group of the Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Resistance Program of CHULN is monitoring the situation according to the rules of the Directorate-General for Health”, the hospital center told Lusa.

He said the hospital’s neonatology service is closed to new admissions and babies “have not been and will not be transferred” to other hospitals.

“The response in this area is ensured by internal means of CHULN and through articulation with the network during the good practice procedures necessary to resolve the situation”, he assured.
