Santarém Hospital reopens emergency department, 4 units with closed services

The Hospital Nossa Senhora do Rosário (Barreiro) is the only one in the country with two emergency services closed (Pediatric and Obstetrics and Gynecology). In the Médio Tejo region, the Dr. Manoel Constâncio Hospital (Abrantes) keeps its Obstetrics and Gynecology emergency services closed, while in the south of the country, the only restriction recorded is in Portimão, which has closed its Obstetrics Emergency.

Although there are no more closures, there are several restrictions, with units classified as referenced, services reserved for internal emergencies and cases referred by the Urgent Patient Guidance Center (CODU) of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) or by the SNS 24 hotline.

The Hospital Professor Doutor Fernando Fonseca (Amadora-Sintra) has its Obstetrics and Gynecology (00:00/08:00 and 20:00/24:00) and Pediatric (00:00/08:00 and 20:00/24:00) emergencies referenced, and the Hospital São Francisco Xavier (Western Lisbon) has its Obstetrics and Gynecology Emergency referenced between 00:00/09:00 and 21:00/24:00.

In the center, the Pediatrics of the Viseu Pediatric Care Service is also referenced between 20:05 and 23:00 today.

In the north, the Braga hospital had its Obstetrics Emergency referenced between 00:00 and 08:00 today.

The Obstetrics Emergency services at Hospital de Santa Maria (Central Lisbon) and Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hospital Garcia de Orta (Almada) are referenced all day only to receive cases indicated by INEM.

The Executive Board of the National Health Service (SNS) urges the population to “always call the SOS Pregnant Line [808 24 24 24] before going to a Gynecology emergency service.”
