The project, awarded today, will focus on the renovation of Pedagogical Building 2 of the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha (ESAD.CR), a branch of IPL.
According to IPL President Carlos Rabadão, the intervention aims to “improve the comfort and safety of the building” and represents an investment of 492,000 euros, supported by the Recovery and Resilience Program (PRR) for STEAM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
The renovation of Pedagogical Building 2 “involves renewing it, reinforcing its structure in the auditorium area, repairing current infiltration zones, and recovering wastewater drainage systems,” explained Carlos Rabadão during the award ceremony held in Caldas da Rainha, in the district of Leiria.
On the exterior of the building, “a general renovation will be carried out,” he added, referring to the renovation of the roof, the rainwater drainage system, and the washing and painting of the walls.
The work has an execution period of 180 days, with completion expected by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
This intervention is part of a total investment of 6.3 million euros, financed by the PRR, within the scope of the “Skills4Future” project, which will allow the renovation of five IPL higher education schools.
The largest project will be the construction of the new School of Education and Social Sciences (ESECS), still “in the land acquisition phase, with an estimated cost of 1.2 million euros,” explained the IPL President.
The renovation of the Health Innovation Hub is already underway, and a “Learning Factory” has been created, which translates into a new direct digital manufacturing laboratory, already operational at the School of Technology and Management.
Also at this school, “the renovation of Building C, where various research units are located, will take place,” said Carlos Rabadão.
Lastly, the building and teaching spaces of the School of Tourism and Maritime Technology (ESTM) in Peniche will be renovated.
“These projects result in the awarding of six renovation contracts, covering six pedagogical and scientific buildings, launched in the current year 2024 and early 2025,” said the IPL President, estimating that all works (except for the construction of the new ESECS) will be completed by June 2025.
