The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has put the districts of Evora, Faro, Setúbal, Santarém, Beja and Portalegre under yellow alert due to the forecast of rain, thunderstorms and wind.

The warnings are valid between noon and 9:00 pm today, and the same period on Monday.

The IPMA predicts the occurrence of “showers sometimes strong and accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gusts, which may be in the form of hail” in the six districts.

In the current weather warning system, yellow is the least severe and refers to a “risk situation for certain weather-dependent activities.

Hazard warnings also include orange and red (the most severe), while green indicates the absence of a forecast of a hazardous weather situation.

In the general forecast for today, IPMA predicts “showers, sometimes strong and accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts of strong wind in the Center and South regions, most likely in the South”

Sometimes strong winds may occur in the northern and central highlands.

In the North, IPMA expects mostly cloudy skies, with clear skies until late morning.

The IPMA also anticipates a “small decrease in the maximum temperature in the South region and a small increase in the North and Center regions”, with a maximum of 26 degrees Celsius (ºC) in Braga and a minimum of six degrees in Guarda.

In the Azores, the forecast is for periods of cloudy skies with openings, and light showers may occur, with the temperature varying between 23 º C and 15 º C.

In Madeira, today should have periods of cloudy skies and showers, most likely on the northern slopes and in the highlands, with thermometers varying between 23 º C and 17 º C.
