South coast of Madeira and Porto Santo with orange warning due to heat

Important announcement concept with megaphone on orange background

The south coast of the island of Madeira and the island of Porto Santo are today with an orange warning because of the heat, and the rest of the archipelago is with a yellow warning.

In a statement, the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) stressed that the warnings will remain until 21:00 (22:00 in Lisbon).

After that time, yellow warnings will remain only for the south coast of Madeira and Porto Santo, as the institute predicts a “small drop in temperature” during the day today.

IPMA predicts that minimum temperatures will vary between 22º Celsius in Porto Santo and 23º Celsius in Funchal, while maximum temperatures are expected to reach 29º Celsius in Madeira and 27º Celsius in Porto Santo.

The wind will be weak to moderate, prevailing from the northeast, sometimes blowing strong, up to 40 km/h, in the eastern and western extremes of the island of Madeira, especially until the end of the morning.
