According to the Department of Investigation and Criminal Prosecution (DIAP) of Lisbon, the defendant and the victim lived together in Lapa, “with the relationship characterized by confrontations, sometimes involving verbal and physical violence.”

“In summary, according to the accusation, on March 11, 2024, at their shared residence and following an argument, the defendant inflicted four stab wounds with a kitchen knife on the victim’s body. The injuries caused the victim’s death. Subsequently, the defendant cut the corpse at the waist and placed the divided body in separate bags, which he then deposited in two garbage bins in the city of Lisbon,” reads the Public Prosecutor’s Office statement.

The suspect has been held in pre-trial detention since March 15, with the Public Prosecutor’s Office advocating for the continuation of this most severe precautionary measure until the trial.

The investigation was conducted by the Specialized Integrated Section of Domestic Violence in Lisbon (SEIVD) of the Regional DIAP of Lisbon, with the collaboration of the Judicial Police.

The victim’s body, aged 35, was found on March 12 inside a bag near a garbage bin in the Lapa neighborhood of Lisbon.

The mutilated body has made news in Brazil, with the family wanting to repatriate the remains.

The case dates back to March 12, a week ago, when a mutilated human body was found inside a plastic bag in the Lapa neighborhood of Lisbon. The suspect is in pre-trial detention.

A Judicial Police source confirmed to Lusa that they were contacted around 3:00 AM by the PSP, who reported the discovery of a corpse inside a garbage bag.

According to TVI’s report on that date, the mutilated body of a man was found by Lisbon City Council employees who were collecting garbage.
