The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a 48-year-old man in Lisbon on the night of August 19th on suspicion of committing the crime of speculation.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the PSP revealed that “the arrest resulted from the charging of rental transport services in which the driver altered the monetary value of the transport, receiving more than the stipulated amount, specifically 36.95 euros more than the actual price.”
“When questioned, the suspect tried to conceal that he had asked for an excessive amount,” however, with the PSP’s intervention, “he ended up handing over the remaining amount indicated by the taximeter to the victims.”
As part of the process, “the taxi vehicle was preventively seized, pending assessment by a judicial authority.”
The detainee was formally charged as a defendant, provided a statement of identity and residence, and was presented for his first interrogation as a detained defendant.
