“They should be ignored”. Tax Authority warns of fake messages

The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) has warned of fraudulent emails purporting to come from the agency.

“The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) is aware that some taxpayers are receiving emails supposedly from the AT in which they are asked to click on links that are provided,” the AT said in a note published on its website.

The agency under the Ministry of Finance gave the example of three emails in which messages similar to summonses for payment or about discrepancies in IRS declarations were sent.

“These messages are false and should be ignored. Their aim is to convince the recipient to access malicious pages by clicking on the suggested links,” says the AT, which stresses that taxpayers should “under no circumstances” carry out these operations.

The AT also urges taxpayers to consult the information leaflet on information security available on the Finance Portal.
