In statements to Lusa news agency, the Sub-regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of Central Alentejo said that the road “was reopened in one direction at 08:49 AM.”
The EN256 had been closed near the town of Vendinha due to a fire in a heavy goods vehicle that caused no casualties, according to the same source.
The alert for the fire, in a truck that “was transporting sludge from a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP),” at kilometer 10 of EN256, was given to the authorities at 07:34 AM.
21 operatives were mobilized to the site, assisted by seven vehicles, including resources from the fire departments of Évora and Reguengos de Monsaraz, the GNR (National Republican Guard), and Infraestruturas de Portugal (Portuguese infrastructure management company).
