The PSP arrested two men in Arcos de Valdevez today, aged 64 and 35, suspected of illegal possession/production and trade in explosive products and possession of illegal weapons, and seized “thousands” of explosive products, a police source said.
Contacted by the Lusa agency, a source from the Viana do Castelo PSP District Command added that the police operation began at 06:00 and may not be concluded today, given the amount of explosive product to be accounted for and that it was found in a warehouse in Arcos de Valdevez, owned by one of the detainees.
In a statement sent to newsrooms, the PSP District Command said that the investigation to combat the manufacture and sale of explosive material, as part of Operation Police Always Present – Easter in Safety, included two house searches and five in warehouses in the district of Viana do Castelo.
The same source said that this action involved half a hundred operatives, including PSP agents, GNR soldiers and the Center for Explosives Inactivation and Underground Security.
In the note, the PSP said that information on this case will be updated at the end of the operation.
