One of the fires has been burning since 6:10 PM in Vimioso and is believed to have started due to a thunderstorm. By 11:30 PM, firefighting efforts involved 122 personnel, supported by 44 vehicles.
According to João Noel Afonso, the Sub-Regional Commander of Emergency and Civil Protection for Terras de Trás-os-Montes, who spoke to Lusa, the fire’s perimeter is under control and should be fully contained “in the coming hours.”
Also in the Bragança district, another smaller fire broke out at 6:55 PM in Carragosa, Soutelo, which is already under control but “has added complexity because it is occurring in a location where vehicles cannot approach.”
At the scene, as of 11:30 PM, there were 99 personnel and 33 vehicles, with authorities awaiting the arrival of a second bulldozer to clear a path for firefighting vehicles, explained João Noel.
