“This result attests to the quality and reputation of the University of Évora in the area of higher education,” said the rector of UÉ, Hermínia Vasconcelos Vilar, as quoted in an institutional press release.

According to the rector, this is a result that “reflects students’ interest in the University of Évora” and “indicates that the institution continues to be an attractive option sought after by students from various parts of the country.”

“It also reflects that the investments that have been made, particularly in expanding the Health area, but also in the Arts, have been correct,” she emphasized.

For the 2024/25 National Competition for Access (CNA), UÉ said it made 1,368 spots available for new students, with 1,224 filled in this first phase, corresponding to 90% of the vacancies.

The academy also noted that of the 1,224 students now placed, “1,087 candidates listed the institution as their first choice.”

“In a year when the number of candidates for higher education through the CNA decreased, the University of Évora had strong demand, especially in courses from the Schools of Arts, Social Sciences, Nursing, and the School of Health and Human Development,” it indicated.

In this first phase of the CNA, the Alentejo academy filled “all vacancies in 23 courses, in different areas.”

For Hermínia Vilar, this indicator “demonstrates the high competitiveness of these programs” offered by the institution.

“But it also reflects the strong demand for certain courses that stand out for the quality of teaching, relevance in the job market, and the prestige associated” with the university, she said, giving examples such as Veterinary Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Psychology, International Relations, Design, Management, and Architecture.

According to the rector, “some of the vacancies” that remained unfilled follow “a trend observed in other higher education institutions.”

“For example, the Agronomy course left vacancies unfilled in all institutions,” she illustrated.

Adding to the results of the first phase of the CNA, the students placed through other access routes (such as the Over 23 competitions, special regimes, local competition in Music, and international students), the University of Évora indicated that it estimates that, in this academic year, “the number of new students will rise to 2,315.”

As for the Polytechnic Institute of Beja (IPBeja), it revealed in a statement that it filled 66% of its vacancies in this phase, meaning that of the 512 spots available for the 14 undergraduate degrees, 337 new students were placed, which translates to an increase of “4% compared to the previous year.”

The Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (IPP) indicated in a statement that it filled “70%” of its vacancies, with “approximately 60%” of students placed in their first or second options.

Both Alentejo polytechnics reported filling all vacancies in half of their undergraduate programs.

Nationally, out of the 58,301 young people who applied, 49,963 students were placed in the first phase of the CNA, a number that represents an increase compared to last year, with only 14.3% of candidates not placed.
