The houses will be intended for families in financial need. They should be built by March 2026.
The Vila do Conde City Council, in the district of Porto, announced this Wednesday (April 3) the acquisition of 90 apartments, in the southern part of the municipality, which will be rented out at controlled costs to families in financial need.
The measure, which is part of the Local Housing Strategy under the 1st Right program, has a cost of 15.2 million euros, which will be covered by European funds from the PRR [Recovery and Resilience Plan].
The housing complex, which is yet to be built, will be located in the parish of Mosteiró, next to the National Road 13, and will include seven two-storey blocks, with 12 apartments each, plus another, similar one, but with only six apartments. The housing types will be T2, T3 and T4 and will be completed by March 2026.
The vila-condense mayor explained that the council will own the houses and will make them available for rent at controlled costs to families from the parishes of Mindelo, Fajozes, Vila Chã, Modivas, Labruge, Vilar/Mosteiró, Aveleda and Vilar do Pinheiro.
“This is good news for Vila do Conde, and especially for families in need who suffer from serious housing problems. The contract for the purchase of these 90 homes was signed last week and construction, which is about to begin, must be completed by March 2026,” said Vítor Costa.
The mayor recalled that the Local Housing Strategy aims to build, acquire and refurbish more than 600 homes in the municipality, announcing that the applications made to the PRR included a further 46 apartments in Touguinha and six in Bairro do Farol, in Vila do Conde, in addition to the 48 already built previously, with 2.5 million euros in municipal funds, but which have now been the subject of an application to cover this investment.
Also in the area of housing, the City Council is going ahead with a thorough refurbishment of 600 homes that are part of its housing stock.
In November, Vítor Costa expects to hand over 72 apartments that are being built in the eastern part of the city, in a partnership with Santa Casa da Misericórdia, which will be the first phase of a project that includes 122 homes, also under the 1st Right program, and which could later reach 200 apartments.
Vítor Costa believes that with these measures the council will solve the problems of “the need to refurbish old housing and the lack of homes for families with financial difficulties”.
