The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) today extended to the islands of the Central group of the Azores the yellow warning already existing for the Western group regarding precipitation, which may be sometimes strong.
According to the warnings issued by the IPMA, on the islands of the Central group (Faial, Pico, Graciosa, São Jorge and Terceira) the yellow warning will be in force between 22:00 local time (23:00 in Lisbon) today and will last until 09:00 local time (10:00 in Lisbon) on Wednesday.
The IPMA had already issued a yellow warning for the Western group (Flores and Corvo) on Monday to be in force between 18:00 local time (19:00 in Lisbon) and 24:00 today (01:00 Wednesday in Lisbon).
During that period the forecasts point to “precipitation, sometimes strong, and may be accompanied by thunderstorms”, says the institute.
The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather situation.
