The rescue was carried out with the help of the Air Force’s EH101 and C295 helicopters which, after landing at Transit Aerodrome No. 1, transported the victim to a hospital.
A 27-year-oldmanwith symptoms of appendicitis was rescued by the Portuguese Navy this Monday while on board the Russian Federation ship ‘AKADEMIK FEDOROV’, which is passing through the Exclusive Economic Zone of Madeira and mainland Portugal, accompanied by the NRP Viana do Castelo.
Following a request for help received through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa), the situation was considered to be an urgent medical rescue, as the young man was showing symptoms of appendicitis, according to a statement issued by the Portuguese Navy.
The rescue was carried out with the help of the Air Force’s EH101 and C295 helicopters which, after landing at Transit Aerodrome No. 1, transported the victim to a hospital.
The young man’s identity was verified by a member of the Public Security Police (PSP) for security reasons.
“The ship ‘AKADEMIK FEDOROV’ is continuing its voyage as planned, always accompanied by a Portuguese Navy vessel,” said the organization.
